September 2007 Membership Meeting

In attendance: Joe, Tom, Susan, Walter, Carol, Tracy

Joe Futrelle announced his candidacy for Champaign County Board district 8 and Walter Pituc announced his candidacy for Champaign County Board district 7.

A planning meeting will be convened soon.

COORDINATING COMMITTEE MEETINGS -- Prairice Coordinating Committee meetings were to be scheduled on Thursdays, but Joe pointed out that these will conflict with county board meetings. We will meet online through AIM on Thursday, September 6th, at 9:15 pm, and discuss other possible meeting dates.

LOCAL CAMPAIGN PLANNING -- Susan offered some ideas on holding a Sustaining Donors drive. We now have a PayPal account, and Joe has posted this to the Prairie Greens website. Sustaining donors will make it possible for us to plan a solid budget, something very important for the upcoming primaries.

Between now and November 5th, we will be recruiting as many candidates as we can, and will hold a press conference with all candidates.

MEMEBERSHIP DRIVE/RETENTION -- Carol made a good point that there might be some people who do not have access to the Internet, and might not know when our meetings are held or how to join the Prairie Greens. This brought up the recurring theme of our lack of a local brochure and newsletter. Susan offered to hold a newsletter dinner/brainstorming gathering at her apartment, where we will put together the content for the brochure. This should take place on Monday, Sept. 10th. Bring your ideas!

Prairie Green membership has dropped about 10%. We discussed the need for contacting those who have dropped or lapsed recently, and will be doing during in the next few months. This will also give us the chance to spread information on our candidates.

LOCAL GRASSROOTS ACTIVISM -- Joe stressed the importance of having a presence at city council meetings and meetings of other groups. It was proposed to change our meeting dates from the first and third Monday of the month to the second and fourth [this change was not made -ed.]

IRV petitioning continues, and Mark is organizing a petition drive this Sunday, Sept. 9th, from 1:00 – 3:00.

The meeting adjourned at 8:30.
