May 2007 membership meeting

In attendance: Carol, Mark, Walter, David, Tom, Joe, Susan, Al, and Tracy.

The newsletter was mailed last week. Reimbursement to Tom Abram, who covered the $60.00 cost of the mailing, was approved by the group.

The Independent Media Center has requested that we pay them quarterly instead of yearly. The cost of having our meetings at the IMC is $90.00 a quarter. This was approved.

The Farmers Market opens on May 19th. We have table space for this, which will cost us $175.50 for the entire summer. This cost was approved by the group.

We badly need a new tent for the Market, and Susan Rodgers has found one that costs $120.00. This expenditure was approved by the group.

We need to purchase merchandise to sell at the Market, and the ILGP has t-shirts, buttons, bumper stickers, platform summaries, tote bags, and Green Party Peace flags for sale at cost. We approved $150.00 for purchasing merchandise, the sale of which (along with donations) will more than cover the cost of tabling the Farmers Market.

We need volunteers to table the Market. We will be tabling the Market every other Saturday. We will set up at 8:00am and shut down at noon. Whoever sets up won't have to shut down, but you will need a car to transfer the tent and merchandise. Susan Rodgers will be emailing us with a sign-up sheet.

Annual Election for Internal Positions

Elections for Convener, Treasurer, Secretary, Press Officer, Membership Steward, Website Manager, and State Party Delegates were elected. The results are:

  • Convener: Joe Futrelle
  • Treasurer: Susan Rodgers
  • Secretary: Tracy Nectoux
  • Press Officer: Tom Abram
  • Membership Steward: Kostas Yfantas
  • Website Manager: Joe Futrelle
  • State Party Delegates: Joe Futrelle, Susan Rodgers, Walter Pituc

The State Party Delegate position has four seats, so if you are interested in this position, please let us know.

Candidate recruitment

The primaries begin the 1st week of February; campaigning begins in August. This is our first opportunity to recruit potential candidates. If anyone has ideas on potential candidates, let us know. Previous candidates are more than happy to call and talk with those who might be interested in running for office. Recruitment posters are also a good idea. The deadline for petitions (primary ballot) is November, but we can still slate candidates until March.

Outreach

Let's keep our eyes open for events at which we can have a presence. We should table as many events as we can. Susan reported that our table at the May Day event was very successful. She collected donations and even signed new members. We should seriously think about appointing an Outreach Committee Chair who can focus on the local scene and keep up with appropriate events in which we can participate.

Our brochure needs an update. Susan will coordinate editing of the brochure, and will work with us to discuss text and images. She'll be in touch with us through email and the list for further ideas and planning dates.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:30.
