March 2007 membership meeting
Meeting: April, 5, 2007, 7:00pm, Independent Media Center

Attendance: Tom, Susan, Joe, Walter, Tracy, Carol

The meeting began with a discussion of this past weekend's Illinois Green Party membership meeting, the Platform Committee, the most pressing issues of the up-coming elections, Rich Whitney's introduction of the Power to the People, and the importance of media coverage. Discussion of the Web Committee: The ILGP site is in bad need of a face lift. Formation of an editorial committee is long overdue, and those who joined are dedicated, active members, so this is very good news.

AT the state party meeting, Susan Rodgers was re-elected for National Committee Delegate. Jennifer Rose is the new ILGP Membership Steward. The meeting raised a significant amount of $ for the party.

2008 Elections: We need to form a strategic planning session, and we will be working on this at the July conference in Rockford. Formation of a Precinct Committee person, recruitment / membership drive, and the creation of a newsletter, were all discussed with regard to preparations for this important election.

Precinct Committee Person: This person must be a member of ILGP. We will be working on a coherent list of names (with addresses and phone numbers) for this.

Newsletter: Our newsletter will include: 1) An update on the 2008 election, and any interesting data we found on how people voted; 2) Membership drive; 3) Fund raising; 4) Press clippings. The newsletter will go to all Prairie Green members, all who pulled Green primary ballots, and all Green-friendly people we know.

Recruitment/Membership Drive: Each Prairie officer's goal is to recruit one person a month: friends, family, anyone we know who is Green-friendly. This was suggested by Phil Huckelberry at the state membership meeting.

We also discussed promotion for the group--getting in the public eye, educating people on our platform. We plan to attend meetings with the Coalition for Peace & Justice (http://www.ilcpj.org/). Susan Rodgers will attend their meeting this Saturday at 4:00pm at the Independent Media Center.

This month we will be calling those with overdue or lapsed memberships to remind them to renew. Additionally, our newsletter will include a membership form for those interested in joining the party.

Miscellaneous:

  • The Campus Greens will be having an anti-war student protest on March 15th from 11:00-1:00
  • Joe will speak to a group of Libertarians and possibly other third party organizers on ballot access this Thursday at 7:00 at the McKinley Foundation.
  • It's time to sign up for "personing" the Farmers Market tent. We also need a new tent. This will be voted on at the next meeting if we have quorum (March 19th).
The meeting was adjourned at 8:30.
