Join us for this month's Green Tea, at 7:30 PM on Monday, January 21, 2008, at the Family Room at the Urbana-Champaign Independent Media Center.
NOTE THE VENUE CHANGE. Green Teas are normally held at the Urbana Free Library, which will be closed on Monday in observance of Martin Luther King day. We will return to our regular location starting with February's Green Tea. The UC IMC is located in the old downtown Urbana post office at 202 South Broadway. Use the Elm Street entrance to the basement where you will see the UC IMC sign, and continue through two additional doors to reach the Family Room.
In addition to honoring Dr. King's legacy, this month's topics include:
- The Urbana parks referendum. The Feb 5 ballot in Urbana includes a referendum to provide much-needed funding for parks. Learn about the referendum and how you can help. Guests will include Renee Pollock.
- Instant Runoff Voting for Urbana. Last year a nonpartisan group of citizens petitioned to put a referendum on the Feb 5 primary ballot changing municipal elections to use Instant Runoff Voting, a reform that allows ranked voting and ensures a majority winner. Learn more about IRV, the referendum, and what's next for the group. Guests will include Durl Kruse from IRV for Urbana.
Green Tea discussions are sponsored by the Prairie Green Party of East Central Illinois. A different topic every third Monday of the month - same time and location.
