The green movement

The Prairie Greens are a coalition of people living in this area who support Green values. Formerly the Champaign County Greens, we have selected this new name which reflects both the natural history of the land we inhabit and the geographical base of our membership.

The Green movement is based upon the belief that what we do to the planet, we ultimately do to others and ourselves. That we need to be good stewards of what we've been given and need to focus our attention on the preservation of our gifts for future generations. We must think not only of ourselves in the decision we make, but also consider the ramifications of our actions to the 7th generation.

In the practice of these beliefs, Greens utilize the process of grass-roots democratic participation. A democracy based upon decentralized power that is a community based, democratic process supporting sustainable social and economic endeavors. This kind of local participation and decision-making, helps guarantee that the choices made are in the best interest of our citizens and their descendants.

All of this is done with a respect for diversity with an understanding of all people. Greens promote social justice and respect for the biological diversity of this planet with its cultural, sexual and spiritual differences. We are committed to the highest ideals of democracy, not through the dominance of others and our resources, but through the nurturing of individual liberties and justice for all.
