Abolishing the Death Penalty in Illinois
with Liz Moran
Monday, October 19th, at 7:30 pm.
Urbana Free Library, Auditorium (located in the basement)
Despite costing Illinois tax payers hundreds of millions of dollars since its reinstatement, the death penalty has brought no added security, and attempts to eliminate the flaws have been inadequate. Although a moratorium on the death penalty in Illinois was instated in 2000, prosecutors continue to seek death sentences. The death penalty in Illinois is still in operation. Come learn how to help abolish the death penalty, a morally wrong, ineffective, unnecessary and discriminatory punishment.
The Illinois Green Party is excited to announce that it will hold its statewide meeting in Champaign-Urbana July 17th-19th. At this meeting attendees will have the chance to participate in the recognizing of the Green Party statewide candidates in 2010, including candidates for Governor and U.S. Senate. In addition, a number of interesting workshops will be held on a variety of Green issues, values, and campaigning.

URBANA, IL - Three Green Party candidates for Urbana municipal office filed their paperwork today: Durl Kruse for mayor, Mark Mallon for alderman in Ward 2, and Gary Storm for alderman in Ward 7. This is the first time that the Green Party has placed candidates on the ballot for city office in Urbana, although the party has run candidates for Champaign County Board during the last three campaign cycles. The candidates will work to increase citizen participation and transparency in local government, improve social services, address criminal justice issues, and strengthen environmental policies.
